Black Jack Marijuana Strain Review

Posted on by admin

Black Jack is a name applied to two closely-related strains. One strain was created by Sweet Seeds, and is a cross between two Sensi Seeds parents - the mostly indica, Afghani landrace-derived Black Domina and the more balanced Jack Herer. The other Black Jack strain (sometimes spelled Blackjack) was created by Nirvana Seeds. The Jack cannabis strain is a Sativa dominant hybrid by SoCal Seed Collective that is composed of three award-winning powerhouse strains. Its flavour and aroma are sweet and skunky, but not too overwhelming. Black Jack is a one or two hit wonder. The flower is crisp, and glistening with tricomes that cover every centimeter of the buds. I've experienced consistent elevations with BlackJack, and I'll. The Black Jack strain is a primarily indica-dominant strain, resulting from crossing Black Domina with Jock Horror. It’ll leave you feeling spacey and heavy headed, yet generally uplifted and energetic. You can even expect some psychedelic effects in addition to the cerebral effects, unlike many strains which offer one or the other. For recreational use, Black Jack is a potent enough strain that gives you a mental head high with a nice balance of physical high. Casinos have their own playing cards, and so maybe they inspired the breeders to do their own versions too. Here are some amazing seed deals. Buy 10 and get 10 seeds for free!

Review

The late Jack Herer — the legendary hemp activist, agitator, and author of hemp legalization bible The Emperor Wears No Clothes — enjoys a permanent high perch in the legal cannabis world, even among youngins who have no idea who he is. This is the status you enjoy when one of the best known and most popular sativa strains is named after you.

But straight Jack Herer — roaring, soaring, and fruity — isn’t for everybody. Like its outspoken namesake, Jack needs to chill out sometimes.

Black Jack is such a mellowing-out attempt. Here, a cut of Jack Herer is crossed with Black Domina, a dark-and-musty indica dominant strain that over the last six years has mostly disappeared from Northern California dispensary menus. That’s too bad, as Black Domina has an unique earthy funk reminiscent of skunky strains from Prohibition days — in a good way — and a relaxing, mellow buzz.

So what happens when you combine the high with the low?

Our Black Jack had a modest appearance, with a small, nickel-sized nug that did not shine like a diamond with trichomes — but , but all the flavor and effects of the Hemperor’s namesake were there. As you’d expect with a combination like this, the highs aren’t as high, but the dominant strain is definitely the Jack.

My lips were smacking from the strong dominant notes of fruit, and my head was buzzing with the familiar cerebral effects. Thanks to the earthier, almost-peppery influence of the Domina, things mellowed out a little more quickly than they would with a straight Jack, giving room to ponder the differences between the earth and sky for just long enough before relaxation settled in.

APPEARANCE

A yellow green nug that seemed almost dusty as it broke apart easily in my fingertips — which were then covered in trichomes. (Jack Herer is known for long, spindly, hard-to-grow plants, so that trait is definitely dominant.)

AROMA

You get that tangerine and fruity nose from the Jack, but there’s a savory meatiness to it — a funk or a musk, you could say, that’s attributable to the earthier, indica-dominant Domina.

TASTE

It’s all fruit on the dry hit from a freshly-rolled joint, with the slightly acidic sweetness of tangerine. The taste hits the back of your mouth with other juicy fruit notes on a hit. It’s almost lip-smackingly sweet. After a few hits, some more piquant notes of pepper and limonene started to appear. More complex than it seemed at first blush.

EFFECTS

Jack was king, with a mind-buzzy, uplifting head-dominant high out the gate.

MEDICAL APPLICABILITY

Depression and pain seem to be solved most easily with Black Jack, who can be a little too racy for someone needing to sleep or calm their minds.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Not top shelf, but a good break from straight sativas, for a day when being energized and activated while just a little bit mellow is important, or for a relaxing boost to kick off the evening.

Back when I first started smoking weed, I didn’t know about the differences in cannabis strains. As cannabis became more mainstream, I grew to appreciate the nuances in smell and effects from different cannabis cultivars. I was no expert, but with the little knowledge I did have, I zeroed in on one particular strain: Sour Diesel.

Touted as a potent sativa-leaning hybrid strain, Sour Diesel has a cool name and a diesel-like aroma. It took me a while to appreciate the pungent nature of this strain, but I always loved Sour Diesel’s accessibility and effects. This common strain can be found in most pot shops, albeit with minor differences in smell and potency.

Sour Diesel’s Hazy History

The details about the origins of this popular strain are shrouded in mystery. Many growers have claimed the Sour Diesel strain their creation. This hybrid sativa and indica strain became popular during the mid-1990s in the East Coast.

Its genetics have been rumored to come from Chemdog and Chem 91 as well as Northern Lights and other Diesel strains. Despite its hazy origins, Sour Diesel has been loved by many including myself for many years.

Sour Diesel’s gasoline scent comes from its unique terpene profile. Terpenes are essential oil compounds found in many plants and herbs. Sour Diesel’s most common terpenes include:

  • Myrcene
  • Limonene
  • Beta-caryophyllene
  • Pinene
  • Humulene
  • Linalool
  • Terpinolene

Sour Diesel’s terpenes combine in a blend of sweet orange, lavender, pine, woody, earthy, peppery, and skunky notes. When smoking Sour Diesel, be prepared to have a strong a lingering smell around for a while.

Uplifting and Relaxing

I found that Sour Diesel was a formidable strain to medicate with. Its THC levels start around 15% and can go above 20%. With low CBD and CBG levels, this sativa strain will definitely get you baked. For me, Sour Diesel elicited immediate calmness and euphoria.

I’ve used Sour Diesel to wind down or give me energy for a productive day. Not only is this strain a treat to consume, but it had strong mood-elevating effects. It’s the ideal strain for consuming alone or sharing with your smoke buddies.

Sour Diesel’s effects are typically cerebral in nature. Expect to feel a pleasant and slightly detached feeling when smoking Sour Diesel. The strain is not heavy on the body high, but it has enough potency to relax the mind and muscles.

Vibrant and Fiery Colors

Sour Diesel’s cannabinoid content, scent, and bag appeal can vary from plant to plant. My strains were consistently studded with trichomes, the resinous glands that contain THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids. The flower buds are often spindly and fluffy with tufts of orange hairs.

Sour Diesel is one of the most popular strains across the nation. It’s sweet and slightly acrid smell is beloved by many. It can be an acquired taste. Sour Diesel provides a boost of energy and focus for me. Although I don’t smoke it quite as much anymore, it’s always a strain I can depend on to relax and enjoy a form of entertainment or be creative.
